We have all heard about writers block and we have all had it at some time in our lives.
Maybe it was at work trying to find words for a report, or at school getting an essay done... or writing a song. One way a songwriter can start to work through this is to use tools or tricks to get past it.
If you have lyrics and are trying to start a melody then try using an existing song to fit you lyrics into. You will soon find that the melody will change to suit your song and your lyric may shift to suit a cadence. And it works in reverse - if you have a melody and chords but no lyrics, see if you can fit other lyrics over top of your song. It may open up ideas of your own. Either way it is a good exercise that can show you a different way to structure a song and hopefully it will get the ideas moving again.
There are lots of other techniques for getting past writers block. More to come....
