When writing I tend to get into a little dance, somewhat a calypso, whirling around between words and music. Sometimes just words come from the blue that feel like a song idea, just a melody may come forth, sometimes a lyric with melody - whichever way it appears the dance starts between words and music.
Some folks I know just write poetically and work on music later and others vice versa. It happens both ways for me depending on the song.
What happens may be a carefully thought out, crafted creation using techniques from teachers and books or it may be something inspired by the muse alone. Either way the dance between music and words is the most time consuming part for me.
