Thought it would be good to hear what you have to say.

Sometimes the best starting point is the title. The 'hook' is the thing, not always the title but usually, and it will set the tone for the whole tune. Check out this bit of humurous video to give you an idea of what this means. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=egCeIwjIuZM
We have all heard about writers block and we have all had it at some time in our lives.
Maybe it was at work trying to find words for a report, or at school getting an essay done... or writing a song. One way a songwriter can start to work through this is to use tools or tricks to get past it.
Is a neat way to build a song. Check out the tunes at the Tillers Folly site http://www.tillersfolly.com . Bruce Coughlan is the main writer and crafts great songs focussing on historical themes.
Another is www.tusket.ca and Ivan Boudreau and Greg Stuart write some great songs as well.
When writing I tend to get into a little dance, somewhat a calypso, whirling around between words and music. Sometimes just words come from the blue that feel like a song idea, just a melody may come forth, sometimes a lyric with melody - whichever way it appears the dance starts between words and music.
